Four Year Old Kinder

Our emergent curriculum is a play-based learning environment which evolves from the interest that is generated through involvement, enjoyment, discussion, play and parent participation. All our children are unique and individual, as are their abilities.  We provide an environment where individuals are encouraged to focus on the journey of Belonging, Being and Becoming.  Our resources are open-ended and culturally inclusive to facilitate learning.

The kinder educators set realistic and appropriate, yet challenging goals for these children, so they can explore and develop school readiness skills in a nurturing, stimulating and social environment.

Self help skills and empathy are a continuous focus within our kinder curriculum. Children are encouraged to develop their skills and independence both in preparation for their first year of school and for life. School readiness is an important aspect of the curriculum. Educators work in collaboration with families to ensure a smooth transition to school.

The children fill their every day with learning and enjoyment throughout a variety of independent and small group activities.  Children experience the joy of learning through books, stories and early writing experiences. They develop maths and social science skills and enjoy creative arts such as; painting, singing and drama. There is also time to join together as a centre for larger events on occasion.

All the activities and experiences provided are designed to prepare children for school and to be fun so children do not just learn, they love to learn.

A Rich Learning Environment

Each of the rooms functions within a flexible routine, which includes a balance of both planned indoor and outdoor play, group times, sleep times and meal times; morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. There is also time to join together as a centre for larger events on occasion.

At Stonnington Children’s Centre we provide a number of learning experiences that will extend all children in all areas of development social, emotional, language, cognitive, sensory and fine and gross motor skills. Our curriculum is based around an emergent curriculum.

Both the National Early Years Learning and Development Framework and the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework underpin all programming and experiences for children.

The staff respect all parents’ rights to the very best care for their children and recognises that all individuals have different beliefs and values. Therefore the staff always make themselves available to parents when the need arises. Parents' suggestions and ideas are a welcome and valuable contribution to our centre.
